Medical disclaimer

The medical information on this site is general education to help you prepare for conversations with qualified professionals. It is not medical advice and cannot replace care from a doctor who knows your history.

Not medical advice

Nothing on Surrogacy Beyond Borders is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. We explain fertility treatment, IVF and surrogacy in general terms so you can ask better questions. Decisions about your own care, or a surrogate's care, must be made with qualified clinicians who have examined the people involved.

Information on this site may not apply to your circumstances. Fertility, pregnancy and newborn care depend on individual medical history, age, test results and the practices of a particular clinic and country.

No doctor–patient relationship

Reading this site, sending an enquiry or having a consultation with our team does not create a doctor–patient relationship. Our consultants are not acting as your physicians. Where we introduce you to a clinic, your medical relationship is with that clinic and its doctors, who are responsible for your care.

Success rates and risks

Success rates we quote are population figures from published sources and cannot predict any individual result. Outcomes vary with egg age, embryo quality, clinic practice and chance. IVF, pregnancy and birth carry real risks for the surrogate, egg donor and baby, which we describe honestly but not exhaustively.

  • No treatment can guarantee pregnancy or a live birth, and no one should promise you one.
  • Multiple pregnancy increases risks for the surrogate and babies; most professional bodies support single embryo transfer in most cases.
  • Clinic-reported outcomes may use different definitions and may not be independently audited. Ask how figures are calculated.

Emergencies

If you, a surrogate or a baby may need urgent medical help, contact local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department immediately. Do not use our enquiry form or email for medical emergencies; we do not monitor them for urgent clinical issues.

How medical content is reviewed

Medical content is written from professional-body guidance and peer-reviewed research and is checked by our editorial team before publication. Independent medical review is being set up, and a medical reviewer is named on a page only once they have reviewed it. Each page shows when it was last reviewed. Medicine changes, so check current guidance with your clinic.

Read our full editorial policy for our sourcing and review process.

Clinics and doctors we mention

Mentioning or profiling a clinic or doctor is not an endorsement of any specific treatment and not a guarantee of quality. We check registrations against official registers on the date stated, but you should verify them yourself and make your own assessment before starting treatment.

Our doctors and clinics hub explains our vetting criteria and links to the official registers you can use. See also our terms of use.
